Discount Designer AI is a speculative design experiment questioning whether artificial intelligence could replace the traditional role of the designer.
The project introduces a poster generator that replaces the briefing process with an automated test, producing algorithmically assembled designs. Created in 2019/2020, before generative AI became mainstream, it explores early tensions between automation and authorship in graphic design.

The system combines algorithmically generated text with predefined visual style systems.
While the programming was developed by Anna Brauwers, I led the visual direction and built a curated library of grids, type, colors, and graphic elements. Using modified Markov chains and rule-based design logic in Processing, each poster is generated through a structured yet unpredictable combination of content and layout.
